will start with the race for the white house. rita williams is in boston but we begin with ken prichard in chicago with the obama campaign. ken. >> reporter: just within the past half hour some of the thousands of president obama supporters have been allowed in this large event venu. many received tickets because they are chicago residents and live in this area and who agreed to travel and hit the road and go to the neighboring battleground states of wisconsin and campaign for the president there in the last few days. the president wants to thank them. there are many states that are intense. pennsylvania, the romney campaign is focused on that the obama campaign is not truly a contest. a short time ago, we talked to democratic national committee communications director brad woodhouse and he says the final campaign day stop by romney is something that he doesn't blame romney for trying but pennsylvania is not a state where romney has a fighting chance. >> well, i don't think so. david axelrod put it best, pennsylvania is a prayer, not a plan for the romney campaign. it is a state that i

want to start with byron york. byron, good morning to you. in boston we find you there. let's go through this. how did the president's team put together this winning coalition. >> he reassembled the coalition he had in 2008. did extremely well with the groups i had done well with before, women, especially unmarried women, blacks, latinos, a number of groups republicans thought would be discouraged and would drift away from the president, they didn't drift away from the president. going to obama rallies, they were pretty fired up and they showed up on election day. bill: you have been talking to the romney camp. what are they saying about how and where they came up short. >> i ran into romney's entire brain trust. many of them were pointing a finger at hurricane sandy. that romney had momentum in the polls and after that the momentum was broken. and some said that obama had done enormous damage in may, june and july. but there were big issues at stake in this campaign. two different views of governing, higher taxes were more regulation and more spending and the vote terse chose pr

's speech early this morning was a gracious one. we'll take you live to boston. we'll take a look at what went wrong for the romney campaign. >>> many people are crediting the campaign organization as one of the reasons for his re- election win. the political reporter joins us via skype joins us outside of washington, d.c. how did obama's campaign get out the vote efforts really pay off? >> reporter: well, if you break down the redales and start -- details and start -- and start looking at them, it's almost county by county, the president winning most of the same counties in florida and in ohio and then you start then going into the details and you see that the democrats were able to get out of vote again and sometimes mitt romney was not even able to reach the level of what john mccain had gone four years ago. one example in franklin county, the obama people were able to get 15,000 more votes than people while the mccain levels were not reached by romney. down in south florida, miami- dade, home to marco rubio. the romney campaign couldn't come close as the obama squeezed the out 70,000

today. i can give you a sense of the room, a swelling crowd at the convention center here in boston. people are holding a small, you know, american flag, ready to greet him. ready to hear what mitt romney, ann romney, the family they have supported will come down and they'll have a united front as this family always does. i have to say there is some question in the room about whether or not the governor is headed down here. those numbers in ohio are so close and there is a thought among some people in here that perhaps they're not absolutely ready to concede. we'll continue to work that out. one of my partners in crime on the trail off-air reporter emily friedman did an amazing job working that part of the story but as you can see here, the crowd is fixed on the screens as they have been for the last half hour. it's very quiet in here. it's been quiet really for most of the night except for the initial wins and early states, a difficult evening for the people who really thought as this campaign portrayed in the last 24, 48 hours that they really had a shot at winning the presidency
